Cantilever Rack in Baltimore, Maryland
Cantilever rack in Baltimore is what I recommend when a city warehouse is fighting long material: pipe leaning on walls, bar stock on the floor, lumber bundles blocking an aisle.
Arms extend from a row of uprights with no front columns, so a load of any length slides on and off without hitting a post.
Why Cantilever Racking Beats Pallet Rack for Long Loads
Selective pallet rack has a column every eight to twelve feet along the face. A twenty-foot length of pipe simply does not fit between them, so it ends up on the floor or across two bays where it blocks access.
Cantilever racking removes the front posts. The load rests on arms, the whole face is open, and the forklift or side-loader sets material down at any point along the run.
If your inventory is palletized, stay with pallet rack. Long, bulky or flexible material is where arms pay off.

Older City Buildings and Cantilever Storage Rack
Much of the industrial stock around Curtis Bay, Fairfield and Port Covington is older single-story or multi-story space with irregular columns and modest clear height.
A cantilever storage rack run along an outside wall, single-sided, often fits better than a double-sided row in the middle of the floor. It leaves the center for truck travel and turning long loads.
We measure the column line and doors first, then set the run so long material can be swung in without hitting the building.
Arm Length, Arm Capacity and Spacing
Arm length follows load depth. A bundle twenty-four inches deep sits on arms of about that length; going much longer wastes aisle, going shorter lets material hang off the end.
Capacity is rated per arm and per upright, so we need the weight of your heaviest bundle and how many arms will share it. Upright spacing is set so long material does not sag between supports. Flexible pipe and thin sheet need closer spacing than heavy bar.
Forklift or Side-Loader Access
Counterbalance forklifts can handle shorter lengths but need a wide aisle to turn a long load sideways. Side-loaders and multi-directional trucks travel down the aisle with the load parallel to the rack, which allows narrower aisles.
Tell us what you drive now and whether a different truck is on the table. Aisle width and arm height both depend on it.
Indoor and Outdoor Yards Near the Port
Port-related distributors near Locust Point and the I-95 / I-895 corridor often store steel and building products outside. Outdoor runs use galvanized or coated components and may carry a roof deck between uprights to shed rain.
Indoor runs use standard painted steel. Many yards use both: covered outdoor storage for bulk, indoor arms for cut lengths.
Mixing Cut Lengths and Full Lengths on Cantilever Racking
Steel service and building-supply operations in the city often keep full mill lengths and cut pieces side by side. Full lengths belong on the lower, heavier levels of the cantilever rack, where the truck handles them. Cut pieces and drops go higher or on a short separate run near the saw.
A cantilever storage rack sorted this way keeps the heavy handling low and the light handling within reach. Label each level by size and grade so the counter can confirm stock before sending someone out to the rack.
Planning Pallet and Bulk Storage Alongside Cantilever Rack
Few Baltimore buildings hold only long loads. Dated pallets suit a Baltimore pallet flow system, while a handful of pallet SKUs stored very deep suit drive-in rack in Baltimore. We draw both beside the arm runs.
