    Drive-In Rack in Linthicum, Maryland

Drive-in rack in Linthicum is a narrow fit, and I would rather tell you that than sell steel you do not need. Air-freight and pharmaceutical operations near the BWI cargo district usually carry too many SKUs and too many lot rules for deep lanes.

It does fit when a building holds bulk reserve of a few products in volume.

Where Drive-In Pallet Rack Fits Near BWI

Hardware and packaging distributors near Andover and Camp Meade Road sometimes carry staple items by the truckload. Those fill lanes, and drive-in pallet rack stores them densely.

Cross-dock freight and lot-controlled product belong in other systems.

Short weekly walks take only minutes and keep surprises rare, which matters most in a building where bulk reserve sits in just a handful of lanes along one wall.

    The Lane Principle

Trucks enter each lane and place pallets on side rails, back to front. Each lane holds one item. Removing aisles inside the block is what creates the density.

    LIFO, Lots and Drive-Thru Racking

Single-entry lanes are last in, first out. Lot-controlled product cannot work that way. Drive-thru racking opens both ends for first-in, first-out flow, but it still requires one lot per lane.

For most pharmaceutical work, flow lanes are simpler.

    Flex Space Clear Heights

Much of Linthicum is older flex space with modest clear heights. A drive-in rack there might run three or four pallets high after allowing for the truck's guard inside lanes.

Measure to the lowest light or duct along the planned block.

    Rails and Pallets

Rails support pallet edges, so pallet width and condition matter. Use one pallet type for drive-in lanes.

    Truck Fit and Protection

Lanes are sized around the truck body, mast and guard. Floor guides keep it centered; post protectors take bumps. Send truck specs before design.

    Keeping Staging Open

Air-freight support buildings near I-195 and I-695 need open floor for staging. A compact block for bulk reserve frees that floor, which is often the real reason to consider drive-in here.

    Pushback and Pallet Flow Instead

Undated reserve of a few pallets per SKU fits pushback rack in Linthicum. Lot-controlled product fits a Linthicum pallet flow system.

Lane Depth in a Linthicum Drive-In Rack

Depth follows typical stock of each item. A staple landing as a twenty-pallet order, set four tall, lines up with a five-position lane.

In smaller buildings, shallower lanes hold more SKUs and stay fuller. A drive-in rack with half-empty lanes gives back the floor it was meant to save.

    Placement and Approach

Place the block along a wall away from cross-dock doors. The approach aisle needs about 12 to 13 feet for counterbalance trucks to turn and enter squarely.

That leaves the center of the building open for staging and sorting.

    Weight and Capacity

Hardware and packaging pallets vary in weight. Steel sizing starts with your heaviest load and works out through depth and level count; a capacity plaque goes on the end frame.

Drive-In Rack Walks in Small Buildings

Check the openings each week for bent posts and rails out of line, and clear lane floors.

In a small Linthicum building, a drive-in rack block may be the only bulk storage, so damage that closes a lane hurts quickly. Tell us about any bump and we will look at the frame.

Keep a spare protector or two on site.
